Opening of a new size-inclusive and gender-neutral clothing store in downtown Muscatine

Last weekend, downtown Muscatine’s newest clothing store, LivLeo Apparel, made a splash on the catwalk by collaborating with other local boutiques at the town’s first annual Couture & Canines event.

Now, days later, LivLeo Apparel (216 E. 2nd St.) is ready to open its doors to the public, and owner Candy Fuegen couldn’t be happier.

“(Selling clothes) has been a dream of mine for about five years,” Fuegen said. “My kids are grown and out of the house, so I had time to add another business to our downtown.”

From the beginning, Fuegen has been focused on living up to LivLeo Apparel’s core slogan, setting a goal to provide “actively, sizeable, and gender-neutral” apparel that can be used to create outfits.

“I think at Muscatine we just don’t have room for every body,” Fuegen explained, “so we have men’s and women’s clothing, but we also want to cater for those who are not. We just want to make sure that everyone who walks in here feels heard and seen, and can wear our clothes and feel comfortable in the space they shop in.

“People are excited to shop,” she said, “and they’re excited about the brands we bring.”

“I’m very conscious of who I’m buying from and who I’m ultimately supporting,” she said. “I would like to bring in more designers that I have a personal relationship with. I would also like to meet other designers across the country who are owned by women or people who are starting out and who just help them achieve their goals. in the fashion industry.

As for its own online store, the LivLeo Apparel website will include everything in the store with new items being added every day. Those browsing online can either purchase the items and choose curbside pickup for delivery, or have the store set aside selected items so they can come in and try them on.

Those who walk into the store will also have the chance to participate in the “active” part of “active leisure” thanks to its in-store Pilates studio, which will be open to everyone. For Fuegen, she felt that because she had space to spare and already sold activewear, having a place for customers to participate in Pilates seemed to go hand-in-hand with the experience. purchase.

Currently, Pilates classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with sessions at 7am, 8am and 9am. Those interested can direct message LivLeo Apparel staff via Instagram to schedule a session. Along with the store itself, it’s open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
