Wrexham Clothing Exchange will be back this month after pandemic hiatus

Wrexham Clothing Exchange is set to make its return next month after a pandemic hiatus of more than 18 months.

“Swop Not Shop” – an event where people donate clothes but can purchase a new wardrobe with the credits received for the donated clothes – will return on October 16 at the Wrexham Enterprise Hub.

Organizers say they are delighted to return for the first time since the pandemic, especially since the event will coincide with their second anniversary.

However, it has been a busy 18 month period for those involved in the organization, as Sharon Rogers explained: Making Masks for HWB Wrecsam PPE.

“More recently a number of us volunteered for last month’s School Uniform Exchange hosted by Town SQ / Wrexham Enterprise Hub and donated over £ 200 worth of new school uniforms for the event.”

“This month we launched our first free ‘Learn to Sew’ classes so our swingers can ‘make and fix’ their clothes, further reducing their carbon footprint.

“We will be running two free sewing lessons each month.

“Now we are really excited to announce that we are bringing back ‘Swop Not Shop’. It was a wonderful time to announce to our ‘swoppers’,’ we are back and you can visit us in person next month on the 16th. October All of our volunteers can’t wait to open the doors again!

Sharon added, “The pandemic has obviously shaped the way we run the event, we’ve taken advice and been in touch with other exchanges across the country to make sure we can get started right away.

“We will have a number of things in place to make sure it is safe for all of our ‘swoppers’, one of them is that the event will only be booked with 55 minute slots bookable with a maximum quota of people.

“So far the response to our announcement has been amazing, everyone has been very excited to hear that ‘Swop not Shop’ is back.

“We are extremely grateful to a number of people, to the Wrexham Enterprise Hub for hosting us, to Abode Above for using their rails, to our volunteers and of course to our wonderful shoppers.”
